Google buys Motorola Mobility
Today Google announced that it has purchased Motorola Mobility for $40 per share. The deal will close by the end of 2011. Motorola Mobility will be run independently.
Andy Rubin explained:
“We expect that this combination will enable us to break new ground for the Android ecosystem. However, our vision for Android is unchanged and Google remains firmly committed to Android as an open platform and a vibrant open source community. We will continue to work with all of our valued Android partners to develop and distribute innovative Android-powered devices.”
It will be interesting to see what effect this deal will have on the current legal battles facing Android. With access to Motorola Mobility’s patent portfolio, Google may be able to step it up a notch and give Apple’s legal team some serious competition. However it is still possible that this deal may alienate other Android handset manufacturers such as HTC, LG, and Samsung.
Let us know what you think… Will this hinder or empower Android as a mobile platform?

NO SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB 10.1′s AVAILABLE ON LAUNCH DATE
For everyone who was patiently awaiting the launch of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 like me, Samsung failed to deliver… Literally. As I waited outside of Best Buy to pick up my new 32gb Honeycomb beast I put together a mental list of Apps to install and accessories to purchase only to be greeted with a bunch of zeros in the inventory column.
Yes folks the Samsung Galaxy Tab is Not available in stores. Seems like Sammy forgot to ship the devices on time.
As of 11:20 Pacific time Best Buy has zero Samsung Tabs in stock on the West Coast. After following up with every level of Best Buys management we were told that it is likely the 16gb version may arrive sometime today, however there is no ETA on the 32gb anywhere on the West Coast.
Office Depot confirmed the Best Buy story as well while Staples explained that they have the 16gb available and that if I wanted more memory I could put a microSD card in there.
So, in summary
- Samsung didn’t ship the tablets on time
- Best Buy and Office Depot have zero in stock
- Staples has the 16 gb but they have no clue that there is no microSD slot!

Sprint (S) has shown its concerns about AT&T’s (T) proposed $39 billion acquisition of T-Mobile to Congress, claiming the deal hurts the wireless industry. AT&Ts absorption of T-Mobile USA and its 34 million customers will leave Sprint further behind with 16 percent of the U.S. wireless market. The new AT&T will have 39 percent and Verizon Wireless has 31 percent.
Sprint CEO Dan Hesse told Bloomberg in an interview that the combined AT&T and T-Mobile entity would have “tremendous” market power and that Sprint would file its complaints about the merger with Congress during the upcoming regulatory review.
Hesse has also said that if the deal is approved, the two big U.S. wireless operators, AT&T and Verizon Wireless, would have a 79 percent share of contract wireless customers in the country.
In the same interview, he also hinted at a possible concession that AT&T could make in order to win regulatory approval for the deal. In short, Hesse wants AT&T, as well as Verizon (VZ), to lower the fixed-line access charges that Sprint has to pay them for backhaul network capacity to its cell sites. It looks like Sprint might be using everything in their power to prevent the deal to go through .
The stock has not done much as it has traded below the important $5 psychological barrier in a tight range. It has broken it on occasion only to fall back below the key point …

Wow … now that we have all had some time to digest this HUGE acquisition attempt , its time to get to hit the charts and see what the stock is telling us . I personally think mergers and acquisitions will be the headline of 2011  , more than any previous year.  Not only in Tech but the entire market.  Businesses have more cash on hand than anytime in history .  It would only make sense for them to put the cash to use and swallow smaller competitors . Also look for dividend hikes for all sectors. Having said that … lets explore a little deeper into this one.

AT&T To Acquire T-Mobile
AT&T Inc. and Deutsche Telekom AG (T-Mobile)  have entered into a agreement under which AT&T will acquire T-Mobile USA from Deutsche Telekom in a cash-and-stock transaction currently valued at approximately $39 billion. The agreement has been approved by the Boards of Directors of both companies.  As part of the transaction, Deutsche Telekom will receive an equity stake in AT&T that, based on the terms of the agreement, would give Deutsche Telekom an ownership interest in AT&T of approximately 8 percent. A Deutsche Telekom representative will join the AT&T Board of Directors. The acquisition is subject to regulatory approvals, a reverse breakup fee in certain circumstances, and other customary regulatory and other closing conditions. The transaction is expected to close in approximately 12 months.

Read MoreMotorola Xoom may be coming to Sprint
There has been a lot of speculation about what Sprint’s planing for CTIA.  We heard the Evo 3D, The Evo View and the Nexus S 4G are on their way.  Now according to forum member r0fl of SprintUsers we have an image of a Sprint branded Motorola Xoom.  It looks like the Xoom is rushing to expand its market share.  The Verizon Xoom was the first to launch, followed by the Wi-Fi only model and now the Sprint version.  Rumor has it that the Xoom will not be launched at CTIA, rather at a separate event in April.  Androidandme.com suggested that the Xoom may be launched with a Sprint branded version of the Motorola Atrix.
With the release of  Adobe Flash 10.2 lurking just around the corner it is possible that the Sprint version of the Xoom will make a bigger splash than the Verizon version.  Of course that depends on if the Sprint version will have 4G out of the box and qualify for Sprints unlimited data plan.
